Here Amongst Us (Cá Entre Nós)

Aymoré Gallery RJ-Brazil

With Analu Cunha, Brígida Baltar, Carla Guagliardi, Eduardo Coimbra, João Modé, Marcia Thompson, Marcos Chaves, Raul Mourão and Ricardo Basbaum

Curated by Paula Terra Neale

Here Amongst Us is an art exhibition showing some works of the 90s and other current ones from 9 artists from Rio de Janeiro with a mature and recognised trajectory in art: Brígida BALTAR, Ricardo BASBAUM, Marcos CHAVES, Eduardo COIMBRA, Analu CUNHA, Carla GUAGLIARDI, João MODÉ, Raul MOURÃO and Marcia THOMPSON.

The show aims to bring together a group of artists that exemplifies the Carioca art scene of the 90s, which takes up conceptual art and minimalism but with a more humanitarian bias: expressive, political, psychological and experimental - in return to the precepts of the 70s. As part of the Villa Aymor? and Terra-Arte in Rio programme; including videos, installations, sculptures, photographs, paintings and objects.

The artists of Here Amongst Us work and know each other as friends since the 80's and early 90's, while still very young they have learned about contemporary art production through foreign magazines, which they photographed and made study groups analysing the slides brought by everyone to formal and casual meetings in a practice that lasted for 3 or 4 years.

Here Amongst Us is a show that has this character of experimental curatorial research and very solid historical foundations but also a strong drive of life; which honours this field of art production that is permeated by bonds and affections, by rich existential exchanges of meaning.

The situations experienced in art, in Rio de Janeiro, in contemporary art, often with great precariousness of means and resources, emerge in opposition to a powerful art impregnated with a critical sense and propositions: experimental, sensorial and intellectual that surpasses all the limits that reality imposes on us. But that also want to change that limiting condition.

The accomplishment of this exhibition was only possible with the sum of the effort and support of space, gallery, artists, architects, designers, and all the Carioca friends who worked in partnership with Terra-Arte to allow us to perceive this wealth of life, experiences and ideas that contemporary Brazilian art has been offering to the world..
